Didier Drogba is set to be offered a new, improved deal to finish his career at Chelsea. The striker had been tipped to leave this summer after the £50million club record signing of Fernando Torres.
But a Blues insider said: "As soon as the new coach has been appointed one of the first things that will happen is that Didier signs a new extended deal. "There's no way the club want him to leave - he's one of the best strikers in the world."
Torres' dismal form - just one goal in 12 games - means the Ivory Coast star, 33, is indispensable. The insider added: "Can you imagine the outcry if Didier was sold and Torres continues to struggle? The decision's been made - it's better to keep both."
Drogba, who has a year of his current £130,000-a- week deal to run, has been linked with a switch to Real Madrid or Spurs. Now he is on course to land a pay rise and an extra year to take him through to 2013.
